At present the modal split for container transport in the port of Antwerp is dominated by truck. Availability of rail and inland navigation will promote the modal split towards rail and barge. Target that will work cost saving especially with the deviation of traffic towards the Deurganckdock.

ATO is a joint venture between Boortmalt (50%) and Inter Ferry Boats (50%). ATO means to Boortmalt a way to forward their containers directly from the spot of loading towads several destinations. ATO means to Inter Ferry Boats a complementary service to their rail and road activities on the Zomerweg terminal which is situated next to ATO
